All potential vocations must be presented by a priest of the Society of Saint Pius X, or a friend of the Society, who will verify that the candidate has all the necessary qualities for a priestly or religious vocation. Before applying for entry into St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary, it is highly recommended that the applicant come to the Seminary for a visit some time during the academic year. During this visit, the seminarian-hopeful can meet the priests and the seminarians, attend classes, and participate in the everyday activities of seminary life. The following paragraphs provided guidelines as to what is expected from a seminarian entering the Seminary.


WHAT TO BRING
     You will be required to wear a jacket and tie every day for chapel, class, meals, and other official functions until the reception of the cassock.  You should bring enough clothing to last one week, as you will be assigned a time to do your laundry only once a week.  It is not necessary to bring your own sheets, unless you wish to do so.

       Bring your rosary, a copy of Sacred Scripture, your spiritual reading, and any other books you might need (dictionary, thesaurus, etc.).  Other books needed in your course of studies will be able to be purchased at the seminary.  Come with supplies ready to begin class work (pens, paper, etc.).  You will not have the opportunity to go into town before the first class once you have arrived.  You are not permitted to have other types of literature, such as novels.  All magazine subscriptions are subject to the discretion of the Rector.  Radios, televisions, stereos, electronic games, etc. are not allowed to be kept.  Tape players, without receivers, may be used with earphones.

APPEARANCE
   
You must be neat.  Hair is to be kept in a military fashion:  short and off the ears and collar.  No moustaches or beards are permitted.  Sideburns are not allowed below eye level.  No hair dryers are to be used.  No rings or other jewelry are to be worn.

       Clothing should be kept always clean and in good condition.  As stated above, the usual clothing will be jacket and tie.  A weekly scheduled time will be assigned you for laundry.  Jeans are allowed only for manual work.  Only polishable leather shoes are permitted for normal wear.  Appropriate footwear is allowed when working.

WORK AND RECREATION
  
    There will be scheduled times for manual work.  Therefore, you will need to bring appropriate attire for such jobs as mowing lawns, changing oil, painting, etc.  In addition, there are many sports activities during the year, such as volleyball, tennis, hockey, basketball, boating, fishing, and baseball.  You may bring equipment needed for your chosen recreation.
